"And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." - MATTHEW 6:12–13
Christianity is not just about “getting saved.” Following Jesus is a daily journey and a life of faith. But there is a moment when you are “born again” into the family of God, while you also continue to grow in maturity and Christlikeness. Once God is your heavenly Father through faith in His Son, Jesus, you will always be His child. Once you put your faith in Jesus, you are “forgiven” in Christ—forever. Nothing can change that. You have entered into the kingdom of God as part of His family (John 3:3–8).
What does John 3:16–21 teach about forgiveness and condemnation?

As you learn to trust your heavenly Father in every area of your life, you will also begin to recognize that, like the children of Israel who ate manna in the wilderness, you’re not always grateful for your new freedom. You’re tempted to “go back” to the bondage of sin. But temptation is a liar. It never delivers on its promise.
Read Numbers 11:4–6. What blessings do you take for granted in your own life?

The Israelites remembered “free fish” and a variety of foods in Egypt, but in reality, they were slaves having barely enough to survive their forced labor. This is the deadly poison of temptation and sin. We believe things that aren’t true, thinking that we’d be better off or that giving in to this desire would be worth it in our particular circumstance.
Identify some lies (excuses) that try to justify sin in today’s world.

The Bible is clear; God never leads you into temptation. Temptation comes from your own desires (James 1:13–15). We never have a valid excuse.

A Christian is never obligated to sin; God will always provide a way out of temptation so that by the Spirit’s power, you may choose God’s will over sin.

To end, read and reflect on James 1:13–17. Pray for the Spirit to give you humility and a desire to reflect your heavenly Father’s holiness. Ask God’s forgiveness for specific sins in your own life.
