Using your answers above, estimate the amount of time spent each day filling your mind with various thoughts.
The point of the previous exercises is not to judge the amount of time spent with any particular form of media or communication. (However, allow the Spirit to convict or encourage you personally in any area that He may be at work in you). The intent is to simply bring awareness that we are constantly filling our minds with information.
Like Jesus during His temptation, the prophet Isaiah used the imagery of eating and drinking in relation to the life-giving and all-sufficient words of God. A few chapters after one of the most descriptive prophesies of Christ as the “suffering servant,” something that nobody expected (Isa. 52), God reminded His people of the nature and power of His words.
What does Isaiah 55:1–7 reveal about life in our own wisdom?

When you spend time reading, memorizing, and reflecting on Scripture, you are filling your mind with the thoughts of God. It’s vital that you renew your minds daily and corporately—as a Christian and as a part of the church, the body of Christ. If your opinion doesn’t match the Bible—change your mind. Don’t try to use Scripture to support your own opinions. Let the power of God’s Word accomplish His will in and through you. He has given us the Bible to know and experience new life in Christ.
To end, read and reflect on Romans 12:1–2. Ask the Holy Spirit to renew your mind through the Word of God so that your thoughts reflect God’s will instead of the culture’s current preferences.
