[Jesus] answered, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” - MATTHEW 4:4
Some people like to say that God will never give you more than you can handle. That simply isn’t true. The Bible is full of stories about people facing tasks that were completely beyond their ability to handle—on their own.
What the Bible does promise is that God will always be with you through the power and presence of the Spirit (Week 2) and that He will not allow you to be trapped in temptation without a way out (Week 3). You will always have an escape. You always have the strength you need to do the right thing, if you ask for it.
How do you handle temptation? What are some of your escape plans or strategies?

The Gospels are clear that Jesus was truly God and truly man. While this is a mystery that we can’t fully wrap our minds around, we can know for certain and rest assured that Jesus’ human experience included temptation. Not only did He face temptations throughout His daily life as a child, teenager, and young adult, Jesus faced an intense season of temptation as He began His earthly ministry around the age of 30.
What does the fact that Jesus was tempted teach you?

Knowing the Word of God is vital. Familiarizing yourself with the whole Bible helps you to know when it is being taken out of context and twisted to justify sin. Jesus showed you how to take a strong stand against temptation. He had Scripture memorized. When facing temptation, the truth of God’s Word immediately provided Jesus with the strength and wisdom to resist the devil’s temptation. Not only does the Lord give you daily bread, He gives you the bread of life through His Word.
To end, read and reflect on Ephesians 6:10–17. Ask God to help you stand strong against temptation and to learn how to rightly handle the sword of the Spirit—God’s Word—your weapon in spiritual warfare.
